Crikey, that seems high (though I have no idea what normal would be). Was it that abnormally hot day? What was the temp? And given that everyone there is an experienced runner (all BQs) seems strange? Well done all, and Martin, that's a great time, and well done for keeping going for what must have been a tough last 10K. Well done guys. G

Despite trying to ignore the heat and run my race as planned it just proved impossible to manage the heat. I stopped sweating and even though I was pouring water over my head at every water station it just got to the stage where the heat and discomfort arising from the heat just became to much and I was running slower and slower. I justy had to accept that to get to the finish required me to run-walk. The fact that I was under 3:30 was a final motivation to run the last KM. The disappointment is hard to explain given the amount of training and preparation. It just wasn't the day to run a PB.

Hi Martin, first of all congratulations. I don't know what your target time was, but 3.28 is pretty impressive to me. I qualified and ran Boston last year. I trained like I have never trained before and on the day, it was one of my slowest marathon times. I also was so disappointed. However, it was also hot and that marathon is not easy. The hills are not the worst, but it is a constant up and down, so you can never get a good rhythm going. I went with a group and every single person was at least 10 mins slower than they anticipated and some a lot more. Now I look back and just think about how much I enjoyed the atmosphere. It really is my all time favourite marathon despite it being one of my worst times!

2600 required medical attention, 20 over 100F body temp requiring ice bath submersion etc. Sounds brutal. 70F (21C?) doesn't sound too bad, but I guess it depends on how you react to heat. Having said that, I live and train in Scotland, so 70F would be quite a shock to my system and I've never tried to race that distance in that heat.
My plan is to train hard to get my BQ, but then to just take it easy at the actual Boston Marathon and enjoy the atmosphere and environs on the day. Who knows how that will pan out though!
Well done again all who took part and completed. G

I was injured and in the last few days decided I couldn't run so I spectated mainly from the Cheers bar I ambled to the Citgo sign to cheer my mrs in. It was comfortable for spectating but hot for running. I get the impression that the temp was costing people 20 to 25 minutes. A lot of people were getting bad positive splits. The support and organization were marvellous, as usual. Airbnb worked well for us. Spent a fair bit at the expo and other running shops.
