I never read the Rachel Papers , as it was on TV at the time... Sounds like a good one to have missed.

Time's Arrow was cobblers. Binned it. Tried to read Night Train but only got about four pages in.

Nah it was good - maybe derivative of Slaughterhouse Five but enough in it I felt, and especially as quantum physics seems to be disentangling the action->causation correlation.

I've read London Fields and Time's Arrow but I struggled with both, I think the Amis family are not the writers for me.

I had heard upon reading the article about the book above that Kingsley is a Marmite writer you either love him or not. Certainly won't waste my pennies on him

I hated The Rachel Papers, but loved Dead Babies. Success, Money. London Fields was OK, I liked The Information and Time's Arrow. His essays and journalism are very good, as is his autobiography Experience

I liked the defamiliarization trick in Time's Arrow, thought it didn't have that much else going for it, but Amis knew that and it was short enough not to outstay its welcome. Didn't like any of the characters in Money much at all, but some of the writing was wonderful.
Just remembered the bit in RP where the protagonist nearly mutilates himself by accident; I felt very disappointed that he didn't, as it would have been better for everyone concerned.

In fact, London Fields is one of the few books I have read multiple times. I might read it again, in fact (because my to-read pile isn't already tottering...)

Strange that London Fields left me cold, compared to others. I don't think that MA does lowbrow working class characters very well (the same goes for Ian McEwan) and , when this is the main character such as Keith Talent, this is a problem.
