I’ve just finished “Of Love and Hunger” by Julian McLaren-Ross. It’s one of those books that grows on you. It’s very much of its time, but maybe it’s a time I am partial to. I’d recommend it if you like Patrick Hamilton and Graham Greene in a downbeat seaside town setting

Collected Appliance from the library. Also got Apples Never Fall as I liked the TV series.

Also picked up Appliance. I thought Fresh water for flowers was there but still in transit. |

Lengthy piece in the Guardian today from Mark O'Connell (whose books I like), interviewing Emmanuel Carrere (who I'm also a fan of). McG might be interested? The source material - the Bataclan attacks - sounds very grim, but Carrere is always interesting. Definitely in the Vuillard, Binet, Houllebecq kind of mould. theguardian.com |

Recent reads: The Secret Hours, by Mick Herron. A sort of prequel to the Slow Horses series, fills in some of the characters backstories. If you like Slow Horses you’ll probably enjoy this. Of Love and Hunger, by Julian McLaren-Ross. Boarding house seediness following a reluctant vacuum cleaner salesmen through the ups and downs of a hand to mouth existence. Currently reading On The Diary of a Nobody by George and Weedon Grossmith, light and enjoyable, it’s made me laugh out loud a few times. |

That would be brilliant Columba, if you don't mind.
