The Earthsea book reminds me that I still have Mrs Ditchfield's copy of The Weirdstone of Brisingamen from school. I hope she doesn't want it back. 😳

I had reason to revisit this thread today. One of the most talked about books we’ve had. It certainly split opinions.

Nearly finished TSLOAJF - it's been a very quick read!

I picked up The Storied Life… as I saw it on the shelves of my local bookshop. It’s a good job I didn’t read the blurb first or I would’ve put it straight back.

I finished AJ, posted on the review thread. Now reading The Book of Love by Kelly Link, which is much, much better. |

Having picked up the Storied Life from the library, I am reluctantly shelving Our Mutual Friend (which I am only half-way through) in order to read the month's book before the month ends.

I have begun TSLOAJF and am making quick progress. It's not my usual type of thing, and the use of the word 'persnickety' in the opening pages (twice) did not help win me over, but it was just the thing to read relaxing in the sun yesterday afternoon. I do find it a bit to twee and wholesome. I feel like this Hozier song. |

Also, I finished Caledonian Road by Andrew O'Hagan this morning. It's good, I liked it, and I am glad I've finished it. Big book, heavy on ideas and state of the nation type polemics.

I wondered if perhaps 'persnickity' is an Americanism?
