I've been listening to a compilation of BBC dramatisations of Barbara Pyms' novels this week, only I keep misremembering the titles. I kept thinking of Crampton Hodnett as Compton Hodnett, A Glass of Blessings as A Cup of Blessings and, perhaps most amusingly and understandably, Some Tame Gazelle as Some Tame Impala. I'm sure Pym would've been a fan of Tame Impala. (Jane and Prudence and No Fond Return of Love remained unscathed.) Having now read or listened to almost all of her published novels, including Excellent Women, I would say that Quarter In Autumn is by far the best. |

Yes, I've read Quartet several times. But no other Barbara Pym.

Celebrated National Bookshop Day with a trip to a new bookshop in nearby town. It has only been open a week; it was pleasantly busy. I was quite restrained; only spent £50. I do hope they do well. If I'm honest, it was our only reason for visiting the town - so many shops have closed. I did have a mind to shop for some outdoorsy trousers, but both Blacks & Millets have gone. 🙁 Plenty of vape shops, mind.
