Hello Oatcake. - That's how I feel too - would certainly not have read WAACBO had it not been for this thread, but very glad I did.
Herald Angel, I looked up Leigh Hunt (had a vague idea he was something to do with the pre-Raphaelites, which of course he wasn't, must have been confusing him with Holman Hunt) and according to Wikipaedia Dickens modelled HS on him quite consciously and explicitly, and it was said to have been a very accurate "portrait".
Getting on fast with Bleak House now. But won't say any more about the plot, if Daz is going to be reading it.

Ooh .. Amazon emailed me to tell me I could have a free kindle book (apparently because I recently bought a book from them .. think it was a £0.99 one but shhhhh). So from the 6 books on offer I chose "Stardust" by Neil Gaiman (.. adds Stardust to ever-lengthening list of books waiting to be read)

Hurray for the library being open today; have trundled down the road and got TMOTF out and made a start. I read quite a bit of this book about 16 years ago. I can't remember why I didn't finish it but was probably due to general life upheaval - I had just moved to Oxford from Edinburgh to be nearer my boyfriend who then dumped me (awful at the time but with hindsight was A Very Good Thing). Looking forward to finishing it this time!

I got that same e-mail from Amazon, so I downloaded Sleepyhead by Mark Billingham. I bought The Miniaturist and The Wolf Of Wall Street just after Christmas which entitled me to the free book as well.
I have to recommend The Miniaturist. I was uncertain about reading it because of the subject matter, characters and setting but it was utterly compelling and I had trouble putting it down! Brilliant story telling.
On to the Wolf Of Wall Street now. I want to see if the excess and debauchery of Jordan Belfort's life measures up to the hilarious film adaptation of his book.

Still reading Bleak House. Plots are unwinding and interlinking like a Celtic knot. Am on page five hundred and something out of eight hundred and something.

Glad I was right about Leigh Hunt, by the way. I knew about him from when I was a big Keats n' Shelley fangirl.
