I bought the thread thing last night. If we get away next week it will be a nice read.

I was very entertained by Kraken. The protagonist definitely matures as it goes on.

A Single Thread is available as an e-book through our library. I’ve placed a request for it - don’t want it to be available too soon though as I need to finish Mitchell’s Utopia Avenue first! It’s a BIG book.

Has anyone read A Girl Is A Half-formed Thing? - I seem to remember it being mentioned. I read Chapter 1 and thought "What on earth is going on here?" Re-read it, followed by chapter 2, by which time I had got into it and knew (roughly) what was going on; but was finding it so disturbing that I couldn't sleep, so I have shelved it temporarily and retreated for comfort into the 19th century with Mr. Charles Dickens. David Copperfield. Read it several times before but not for many years. Actually it's quite disturbing too, but I think I shall be able to sleep.

In a break from normal behaviour, MrsP (SusanP on Fetch but rarely if ever seen in the forums) has declared the August book to be 'her sort of thing' and is threatening to buy it from Waterstones tomorrow.

Some of the libraries have opened up near me and it looks as though one of them has this month's book! I can't reserve it but I'll try and get there on Monday to see if it's still there.

Finished the Brooklyn bridge book. Lots of it good I got quite heated about the final attempts to replace the chief engineer and I know a bit more about caissons and wire rope than I did
