I knew Heather when she was a teenager. Great to follow what she does now all these years later 😀

New Winter Record 15:35:41 for Findlay Wild, and he did it as a Dark BG, ie between sunset and sunrise, and he did it solo, unsupported and no GPS

This might be a stupid question but I’ll ask anyway. With no GPS how is his time/course checked and seen to be valid? Does he have a tracker on or is their some other way of validation?

No validation required, he is a previous completer. The fact that he did it without GPS is a personal choice and not really a relevant statistic, but it was clearly something that he wanted to be publicised as part of his personal challenge. Quite impressive though.

The culture is more akin to mountaineering than athletics, and challenges are done 'on trust'. A very decent run out

"No GPS" meant he wasn't navigating by GPS but using traditional compass/maps/knowledge. He did have GPS running on a phone/watch as his route is up on strava

I find this sort of time amazing at any time, never mind at winter, in the dark, and, after the last couple of weeks, probably very boggy in places.
Finlay has always had an approach of never using GPS for any of his rounds iirc.

His first attempt that he mentions on strava at the solstice sounds mental.
