Yeah, I thought it was good that he came out with some of statement before too much time had elapsed, it puts things in perspective. I had a quick chat yesterday with some of the support from legs 15 and 16 (i.e. over Kentmere and Martindale) and I think they must have had conditions worse than we did and that's saying something. Strength to James, he'll need it in the coming days. |

Back home and now and catching up with things. Just wondering, does everyone know about the descent from Yoke (or ascent I guess) ? It's insanely steep and I suppose you'd only do it if contemplating a Wainwrights Round, I certainly hadn't done it before, although I think Mark Richards might mention it as a route option in one of his Fellranger volumes. You basically head due west off the summit until you read the track at the bottom that marks the start of the climbing traverse up to Troutbeck Tongue, but that's much more easily said than done and although it was fun to start with (bum sliding), it soon got serious when we realised we couldn't stop. Fortunately we had microspikes that dug into the grass through the snow and saved the day, but that could have been very nasty. Here's me at the top, just before the fun started: Some mappage: |

A friend of mine once did a mountain marathon with a guy who drove tanks in the army. That descent looks like one of his lines

I wish I could post the video here. Bobs screaming (well, squeaking) is top entertainment value.

I've still got the scar on my ass from when I did that coming off Barf and a rock ripped through my shorts and my skin.

Well, one of our number (Steve R) quite sensibly refused to slide as he was wearing a new pair of gore-tex overtrousers.
