I’m always thinking of doing one.... I often think about the rounds I supported, the views, the crappy weather, the beautiful weather, yewbastard, bastard Fairfield..... helped by Dave’s certificate being framed on the stairs so it’s passed several times a day, and photos from his BGR in the kitchen....
However, after a couple of years off running properly for various reasons, I know it’s going to be a while at least before I can contemplate it.... Need to get the LL50 trained for and done next year and then see what happens. I am under no illusions of what it takes at least 🤣
MC - I’m 40 already. I always think that in the fells age has far less meaning. As long as you still have your knees...... 😀

‘Just north’ of Skipton sounds great for training. We lived for years in Addingham

I was 47 when I did my BG. I’d not really done any serious running when I was 40

People do say that age has less relevance in long fell runs.
Anyway, I've pulled together a rough summer 2021 training plan. I know much of the route well already, by will do some recces/supports over the next year. I'll also get a fair bit of my mileage done in the highlands (I'm not far off completing the Munros, and they definitely fulfil the big/steep criteria).

My knees are still OK. It's the bits around them that are falling to bits 🙂

MC a thought from me: don’t think of miles or mileage but think of feet climbed; specifically thousands of feet. A good week is 13,000 feet, maybe not 40 or 60 miles. The mileage comes free with the climbing (and arguably more important descending) for free

Yes - my main plan is to focus on ascent. Tbh, the miles will come with the ascent.
I'll be aiming to average around 3,000m of ascent a week - sometime more or less in an easy week, but maintaining the average.
A long munro day can easily have 2,000-2,500m of ascent on its own.

And yes - it's usually the descent that kills me, not that ascent!
