No qualifying swittle- the BG is a personal challenge organised by the prospective BG club member. Only real requirements for membership are that your attempt is pre-registered with the legend that is Bob Whiteman and you have at least one pacer / support runner / witness with you on each leg. Oh, and you have to complete (clockwise or anti-clockwise) inside 24 hours

Solo rounds aren’t eligible for club membership (the pacer thing is about safety really - not ‘proof’)

I was interested to hear Vassos, the sports person on Radio 2s breakfast show, mention the BGR this morning. Good that it got a mention in a national radio sports report. :)

Vassos has an aspiration to do the BGR I think - he's mentioned it a few times over the past few years.

Been busy in here over the weekend!

Highlight of my weekend was seeing Kilian at Grizedale Tarn just as he started to go up Seat Sandal. The lad ascends rather well :-). If I'd not have spent a few minutes sat in the tarn cooling off I'd have missed him :-)

What route did he take between the Scafells? Had someone rigged a rope?

Although with it being so dry being the mountain goat he is he probably just skipped across Broad Stand :-)

D - I know he went via Broad Stand, but don't know if someone rigged a rope in advance. I know young Joshua is a very competent climber, dunno about Jebby and MMB but I expect they wouldn't have messed about.

I was up on Mickledore last year with my boys [i.e. rascal sons] when a Dallam BG attempt came past and I watched all three free climb Broad Stand. I confess I was very nervous just watching - it's not something I would do without a proper rope and harness. I went up onto the ledge years back and had a good look at the shoulder, Bobs was practically begging me to come down, not that I needed much encouragement. Lots of ghosts lurk thereabouts, funny to think of Coleridge making his way down there. Harry Griffin wrote a lot about it.
