I think a 3 day recce is a great idea, but with Bob Whiteman's website etc it shouldn't really be too difficult to find your way round

He's been doing g various sections but is keen to get some tips about best routes etc so I guess running with people who have done it will help. We are going to the lakes soon :-) :-)

Did anyone see Selwyn's response to this btw? Whatever Charlie decides to do, I think we can confidently expect that anyone doing a "guided" round under 24hours will struggle to gain admittance to the BG 24-hour club.

Where did you see Selwyn's response NE? I've not spotted that.

Interesting read. If he's true to his word I have less of an issue with it. I'd just question whether where/how he is promoting the service fits in with that ethos.

I also wonder if there is actually much difference in terms of guiding someone around for money than getting the likes of Jim et al, who know the route like the back of their hand and can navigate with a blindfold on, to be part of your crew on the hill?

NE: this one?

What would Fred Rogerson have made of it? is the question I ask myself. The quick history lesson is that it was Fred who set the Club up and who along with the early members set the spirit and the ethos which has led to over 2000 runners successfully completing Bobs Round. Well I knew Fred for nigh on 30 years and I can tell you that he would have been apopleptic. And its probably a little bit on Fred's behalf that that's exactly how I feel. When it comes to Facebook and technology generally I'm a bit of a luddite and I don't usually bother....but this is something else! The BG Committee will indeed be considering whether runners who've paid a fee will qualify for membership. Having done 900 BG summits in support of other peoples Rounds you can guess which way I'm going to be voting!

How does Charlie's proposition sound in comparison with how, to take a random example, Scott Jurek did his round? And did the club recognise that round?
