Just wandered through Keswick and, after thinking that no-one would head out on such a miserable evening, bumped into a couple of runners just heading off. 5pm start, 22 hour schedule. live.kongtracking.com |

Sensibly stopped at Dunmail. Were quite a bit down on a 24 hour schedule by then but they had managed to add in Calfhow Pike as an extra top.

New Winter record today. Gavin Dale. Ambleside. 14:57. Not sure how wintry it is, I'm certainly the wrong side of the country, but hats off. Looks fresh as a daisy on his interview afterwards too - I had to check it wasn't a pre-off interview at first!!! |

A lot more wintry than he anticipated according to the interview. They had snow from Great Calva and down leg 2, making it hard going with limited vis, and a lot of ice on the rocks of leg 3. For me one of the notable things about this round was that he didn't maximise his daylight, starting at 9pm. It's an interesting contrast with Kim's winter record in 2019 when he timed it to come off Robinson in the last of the day's light on what was a very clear weekend with everything frozen solid (along with NE, SimonF and others I was busy celebrating Bob's 50th in a house in the Newlands Valley trying to spot him coming off Robinson) |

I'm sort of glad he did get some proper winter conditions, it vindictives his fantastic achievement even more. We drove up the Newlands Valley last Friday and I was thinking about that exact weekend FF, what a place that was! @SimonF have you been able say "the maps are on the harpsichord" since then? |
