Yeah, I am only riding into work and back, however, I did go for an 11 km fell run this morning, onto the ridge, along and back again. The views were spectacular over wales and England was shrouded in a thin veil of mist, with the tops of the hills sticking out, quite surreal :-)

I've bought some brake pads, so I'm off to fit them in a minute!!! This should be very interesting

Don't forget to toe them in - the front of the pads (ie the end nearest the front of the bike) need to be about a millimetre closer to the rim than the backs of the pads. If you set them up so they are completely parallel to the rim they'll likely squeal.

Some pads have a shaped washer that lets you achieve this - alternatively running a file down the back end of the pad will achieve the same result.

Cheers sb, they are done now, and I hadn't seen your message, there is a gap naturally and I was thinking oh shite what have I done wrong, but looks like it's all good. I'll test them out tomorrow morning. It was bl00dy hard work and I've never done anything like that before so I got in a right mess, at one point I was going to abandon my efforts and take it to a LBS, but I'm rather pleased with myself.

Doing it yourself is much more satisfying, for sure.

Next step is doing the pedals and seat. Although I know I can do the seat as I did the one on my road bike last year on my own :)

Ok so I will own up, as every first time story needs a d'oh moment. I have just been and mown my lawns, doing so meant I had to take bike out of the storage bit, and I was admiring my work on my bike, when I discovered that the gap was bigger at the front than at the back, opposite to what sb said, so I have sorted it out and they are now toed in :)
