Looks like I won't be climbing thin month either - too much real life going on. And all that running...

I haven't done much for a while. Up in the Lakes/Scotland next week though and taking the climbing gear so I might give it a go outside for the first time...

Not strictly climbing, but I have just watched this and though it might interest some bbc.co.uk It does include an ascent of the Inaccessible Pinnacle on Skye (about 40-45 minutes in, I think). |

I'm saving that for when I do the traverse all in one go (current plan is spring 2012, but totally weather dependent).

THAT sounds exciting, MC We did chunks of the ridge a couple of years ago, but not the In Pin because there was a huge group of Dutch teenagers waiting to go up and life's too short to queue on a mountain. It looked straightforward enough, though I do quite fancy doing a full traverse sometime |

The Inn Pinn is only a Mod (if you do the E ridge of it), so very easy but exposed. The ridge can be done direct at V.Diff / Severe, so still not hard but you need to be able to move quickly on it (i.e. not pitching much). Apparently if you avoid the difficult bits the lowest grade for the ridge is Mod, but that doesn't really appeal tbh. The Cuillin traverse attempt may possibly be brought forward to this autumn (it's a toss up between that and Knoydart). You need dry weather for it though, so that may end up being the deciding factor. Drizzle/clag = Knoydart! |

We had a glorious opportunity one May - beautiful weather, had been dry for weeks. If only we'd taken another few days on the island ... and we had an absolutely foul week the previous August, when it rained the whole time and we only made one summit on the ridge and, due to an elementary error at sea level, it wasn't the one we thought it was. Downclimbing the Eag Dubh without protection was possibly the scariest thing I've done that didn't involve a car. And a full ridge traverse doesn't take in the Great Stone Shoot, does it? I hate that particular geological phenomenon with a passion. |
