Finally got TtR Japan/ Italy to the table Quite a pleasant game although low scoring, the winner one of my sons won but largely ignoring helping out on the bullet trains |

Nasty game with a lot of blocking going on and it could have been worse. I think second time out people will be more careful with destination tickets |

We've played the European version 3 times now and the whole family have enjoyed it. I've lost every time though. |

I get upset if folk deliberately block. I prefer everyone to try not to block, it makes our youngest get upset then it's no fun for anyone.

Maximum is 5 players, and tbh the more you have the better is gets, imho. In 2-3 player mode the double/triple routes get reduced to singles, which can cause a lot of "blocking" if you have multiple destination tickets that pass through a city, the act of completing yours blocks others. That's what we found with TtR Italy today, TtR Japan with bullet trains that anyone can use became a lot more cooperative. My favourite TtR though is still Pennslyvania, the introduction of train company stock does lead to some interesting gameplay. In the original TtR I think there are a couple of key pinchpoints that are worth controlling early on. Re deliberatley blocking when the boys were younger we had a house rule that you "shouldn't" block a childs route. If you did generally all the other adults would go out of their way to destroy you and give the kids a fighting chance of winning. TBH though the games were semi cooperative. As they are teenagers, today it was go out and win. Good fun though |

I agree ftrobbie, we've played 5 player and 3 player and it was much better with 5 because of the rule about not being able to use double routes causing issues. Is the European one the original? We've certainly noticed pinch points - Paris and Essen for example. The Japanese one looks fun. |
