Angus, I hope you enjoy FR, we think it's great. If you enjoy FR base game I'd highly recommend investing in the peloton expansion. The bots bring a level of randomness not caused by the players scheming. There are also ideas in the boardgamegeek forum for carrying over fatigue between races if you go for a tour event. There's even an app. I developed a 2018/19 Tour de Yorkshire set of courses which provided so extra fun.
Thanks for pointing out Scythe and Villainous, not sure on Scythe but may drop coin on a copy on Villainous. Seems like an interesting game with assymetic decks. My only concern would be replayability.
We had a 5 player version of TtR Japan the other day, very enjoyable with different win styles being pursued, very close in the end. It came down to 2nd and 3rd having an uncompleted ticket and a misread completed (therefore uncompleted) ticket. You do need a base game to play TtR Japan though.

^^^^^ beat me to it, but I was also going to suggest you get the Peloton expansion. Means you can run up to 6 teams (1 - 5 can be dummy teams) and the AI works surprising well - judging by the number of times we lose to the dummy teams!

I've got a copy of Flamme Rouge, but I didn't realise the Peloton expansion introduced an AI element. That's cool and I think I'll need to splash out.

I've been playing Marvel Champs a ton. It is easily the best gaming purchase I have made in a long time.

We've just got Dune, and played it with friends the other night. It's a little complicated and seems very unfair to some factions but I think we need to learn strategies for different factions which makes it more interesting. Still an enjoyable game on the first try.

We had 4 hours of Dominion 1st edition with Prosperity the other day, 9 games, good fun.
My personal preference, I don't enjoy games that have rules that have lots of exceptions, you spend too much time understanding all the mechanics and special rules and not enjoying the game. My boys play Warhammer 40K and the arguments are endless and the size of the rulebook and species codex suggests it will always be thus.
We are away next week and taking Dominion (with Intrigue, Seaside and Prosperity expansions) Dixit (with Quest and Journey expansions), Codenames, Get Bit, Walk the Plank, Star Fluxx and Disneys Villainous. Not had much success (enjoyment) from Villainous or Star Fluxx yet but will give them another go. A mix of games we enjoy and some that get non gamers involved in a quick bit of fun before or after dinner.

I have been looking at Disney Villianous. We are big Disney fans in this house and lucky enough to get to Florida ever 2 or 3 years. But I'm getting a lot of mixed opinions on it.
In other news, my nearly OOP expansion for War of the Ring did actually arrive from the States, so that saved me nearly £50.
And we are playing a lot of Bunny Kingdom here at the moment. Love it.

Dominion is great fun. We tend to play it solidly for a week, then put it away for six months, then go crazy about it all over again.
Somehow, we still seem to enjoy the base game and so we have saved a small fortune by not buying expansions.

Synge, I think that maybe why you have to put it away for 6 months ;-). After a little while we found the interactions fairly formulaic with using 10 out of the 25/26 kingdoms cards in the base game. With 4 expansions (c100 kingdoms) we can get a fairly different game each time (there is similarity in the cards though so it's not completely different). Horses for courses though.
