With iPhone, it's just a setting. With Android, it looks like I have to build some kind of 'Service' that will keep updating even when the app is not necessarily active itself. So I might need a little while to get my head round that

You may have thought of that, or it may not be possible, sorry for being so dense as regards the magnitude of the job involved.
