Happy, you're looking at the wordpress.com website yes? Your costs will more than likely add up to more than you think. Their own pricing table states you need "Business" plan to install third-party plugins. And these might come with their own costs. Grrr indeed. WordPress as a piece of software is open-source, hence how other providers offer WordPress hosting that may or may not be better value than WordPress's own offering. I can't recommend others since part of my business is hosting WordPress client sites and I think I do it best! ![]() |

But...! WP Booking, a plugin, states that some plugins (including theirs) are permitted on Personal or Premium. Very annoying or at least very confusing! wpbookingsystem.com Oh, actually, I suppose I've just understood what you've said (for which, thanks ER!) They (WP Booking) are actually just "reselling" some WP templates and tooling as well as their specific solution (booking/scheduling) plugin. But you are saying that their hosting, and other services (presumably support etc.) may not be as good as WP? You're right, it's adding up! £240 per year for WP Business, plus $59 per year for a booking plugin. Crikey! And I'm not even ready to take any money off anyone. I just wanted to have a website looking like things were ready to go, for when I first started promoting things. |

It can get complicated! I don't know wpbookingsystem.com but what they're selling is a plugin only, and the pricing options are mostly about licencing, i.e. how many websites you can install the plugin onto. Plus some premium "add ons" which from my experience are very often the things you actually need. They *don't do hosting*. You'll see that they have a free plugin available for download from wordpress.org (not wordpress.com) but you can bet your bottom-dollar that one will be hamstrung. Having said that, there are other reasonable free booking plugins, but most will operate some kind of freemium model - i.e. you can get the basic plugin for free, but sooner or later you'll need some "premium" feature and for that you pay. You could compare with here: maxc.io But that could get me in trouble ... |

I tell you what ER, why don't I fmail you?! As you clearly know what you are doing and are just helping a pal, and obviously that link wasn't to your own business or any such thing?! ![]() Joking apart, the whole point of this thread was to share business opportunities. If I can get the same WP service via a Fetchie, where obviously they are getting some benefit too, I'd be delighted to do that. And I think that is all totally above board. Switching to fmail... ! ![]() |

um
Can I ask for coding help here? No money, sorry. If this counts as 'code' ... For some time I have used a couple of Powershell commands to change the filenames of my photos. I've now decided to make it a script so I can run it from the desktop. One click instead of half a dozen. It's quite short, well 3 lines ... I want to add an output line for each file it changes, instead of listing every file. The script is :- cd c:PhotosAll20253 gi * % { rni $_ ($_.name -replace 'IMG_5','IMG_15') -verbose } Read-Host -Prompt "Press Enter to exit" I added line 3 to stop the terminal window disappearing before I could read any message, and I added the verbose parameter to get some display of changes. But it lists every file even if no change. Is there an easy way to only display files that have changed? (this is pwsh v7.5 if any significant differences across versions) Thanks for any thoughts - or even redirection to a more appropriate thread. |
