I'm 51 and have run every day for the last 67 days. I feel the best I've felt in a very long time. However I've done a huge amount of walking, cycling and running over decades and not prone to the common over-use injuries that effect many runners. Daily exercise can help with depression, low mood and anxiety in my experience and looking at our re-cycling bin I'm drinking less than I often do. Even 15 mins a day helps me massively. A walk or bicycle ride might well have a similar effect. Walk-run, not taking the running too seriously or considering it as "training" helps me

DT, you're highly experienced. I don't think normal rules apply to you

Yes you can certainly run every day, but take it very gently at first. Does it count if you run 5 mins? What is the minimum that gets you off the bottle? Also, walk/run may be worth a try.

"Does it count if you run 5 mins? What is the minimum that gets you off the bottle?" Not sure. When I go running I feel like every step is reversing a tiny bit of the damage I've done over the years. I've been going running whenever I feel like drinking. If I can force myself to get changed into my shorts and running shoes rather than picking up a bottle I just run until I don't feel like I need a drink anymore. |

Crackin idea. I say go for it Permanent Rose. Think how often to run is different for each of us. Reckon you'll soon figure out what works for you on a daily basis. All the best with it. |

Good luck with it Permanent Rose - like others on here I'd say experiment, if a mile or two run very easy is 'enough' then go for it - that way you can make some of your other runs a bit longer in between.

Welcome to Fetch. Really well done on making such a positive change. Experiment and see how you get on with running every day. Don't rule anything out but play it a bit safe as getting injured and being unable to run at all is't going to help your efforts. And make use of all the support this site and it's members can give you. Lots of varied experiences with running, drink, addictions, injuries and life generally. Lean on us. Good luck. |

Welcome Permanent Rose. Lots of people do run every day but lots of others have tried it and ended up injured. However, it sounds like it is really helping you - like Nellers said getting injured so you can't run would be disastrous but if you can take it carefully why not see how you go? It might be worth blogging your progress too (you can set it to private if you don't want anyone else reading it) so that if you hit a rough patch you can look back and see what worked before - and remind yourself that you can do it. I wish you all the luck in the world, and hope you stick around. |

Hi there and Weclome to Fetch Running every day is hard for some, I run five times a week and the rest days are hardest as I want to run. and what Carpy says about blogging is right, its a great way to look back and see how ya felt a few weeks, months years ago. Set it private or public or a mix of the two. write a line, write a full page it doesn't matter. good luck with your progress |
