Siphon / vacuum coffee. As the water boils it's forced up from the bottom ball into the top, and when you remove the heat the vacuum created when it cools pulls the liquid back down through the grounds.
It's not forced through the grounds under pressure, so it's more like a French press than an espresso, but quite a nice clear bright brew. The fabric filter makes sure you get no grounds at all in your cup. Easy to control how long you want it to steep for. To be honest, I just like the look / act of using it :-D
I don't think there's anyone that likes coffee that doesn't enjoy some parts of the "fuss" that comes along with it. Love the idea of that contraption, I would imagine it tastes similar to an aeropress coffee, though much more theatrical!
