I managed a 65:54 today which is my highest.
Think I just need to maintain until my next big birthday in 20 months 🤣

Kieren
Hello All,

Im new to this thread so it's now on the watch list and I will be catching up on the posts and journeys.

I've been running a 5K virtual hanidcap race set up my club over lockdown. So, it's a solo run and I chose 1.5 laps around a local lake.

The first 500m are flat, then 800m at about 2% climb. When on the limit I tend to blow up at 2.5KM and do think the reverse route would be faster but am committed to the direction I set.

WAVA over 5 KM

61.6% in June (22:24)

67.9% in Oct & Dec

I need 19:47 to hit 70%. No idea how long that will take - maybe 6 months, maybe 12, maybe never.

69.48 for me for my 21:54 5k earlier, eight more days to my birthday though, so if I can do that again I’ll be 70+ 😂

69.8 for me today on my fake parkrun entry. I found it rather motivating and will do more of them. Haven't really done speedwork since september when I hit 73 so I'm pleased with that. Will do some 5s and 10 kms over xmas.

Evening all. Returning to running after a few years out, and currently managing a 5k tempo run of 21:45 (65%). PB from 2016 is 20:12 (which was then 67%) - if I can beat it by 3 seconds it’ll get me 70% so that’s one of my aims going into 2021. Sub-20 would be great too, so those aims kind of go hand-in-hand.

I never really focused on 5k specifically before now, preferring to alternate a variety of race distances up to marathon, but this time around I’ve built in a weekly tempo run (which would be a parkrun in different circumstances, to gee me on a bit) over the same route each week. It’s slightly downhill, so I’ll reverse the route at some point to make it a bit tougher, but for now I’ve run 2 and plan to run 6-8 before reviewing how I’m getting on and tweaking things if necessary.

Will keep an eye on this thread, and wish all others eying that 70% target success in achieving it!

Welcome Kieran I’m fairly new too as only just getting to mid 60’s need to try harder or just maintain while I’m getting older 🤣
