The last twice I’ve given blood it’s floored me 2019 it was between marathons they said it would affect my performance and tried to talk me out of it I said I wasn’t winning a race just running it so went ahead it was awful. Last year nothing was happening but my pace went way off I ended off not well and took weeks to get back to anything like I’d been prior and so I may have to think about it definitely won’t do it before my ultra.

That's interesting GG, glad its not just me being super sensitive! I'll see what it is like this time and perhaps take more notice.

I have usually found it takes about 2 weeks to fully recover after blood donation in terms of run training. The best recovery I ever made was on the back having to do a beginner session the evening I had given blood - which I would normally have avoided - so there may be something in the gentle exercise theory. It was about week 3 of the Couch to 5k I seem to remember.

Always takes me a couple of weeks post donation to feel like I'm running well (for me) again. My usual impact is in resting heart rate (goes up!), and I struggle a bit with getting short of breath on sharp hills and the stairs!
