Go-KL Yet another year where I race until April then pretty much nothing over the Summer when I am away at the Formula One races. I knew though I was in good form after a swift 5 mile race a the beginning of September, the summer regime of doubling up a gym session and a run in the same day + some weights program for the first time was paying dividends.
However for this race I was less than well prepared. A freak accident in Belgium (falling off my bed) had left my right hamstring extremely prone to stress - and moreover I had just completed a Brazil return, China / Japan return which had left me extremely jet-lagged and with a slight chest infection.
So it was probably a blessing that I spent 40 minutes trying to find my Garmin which was eventually found under someone else's car. I was extremely annoyed, and this helped me forget all the tiredness as I blasted the first 8 miles at something close to 1:20 pace. After the big hill at 8 my legs just tightened a little but I was pleased with the time and performance considering.

paskha 38th Half / 1st Stroud Half. Had just hoped to clock my 5th sub 2-hr Half. My PB is actually 1:55:07 set 7 years ago (Truro, 1998 when I was 48 - I've had to add 8 secs to that PB, cos otherwise THIS result won't show up in the FV55 Half-M league table!) so extremely happy with this - I had no idea it was so close. One week after a marathon (Abingdon) I seem to be able to run like hell on a Half!! Travelling there was a bit of a pain, cost me more than going to Abingdon ....
Just for the record I ate a big portion of Clothiers Arms Fish n chips & mushy peas the night before and drank 2 pints of real ale. I was 2nd FV55, but there was just one award. I'd bought a tall beer glass the previous evg as it had a hare running across it and

Mooey I did this race to get my legs going again after my marathon. It was tough, but enjoyable! Happy to finish.
