Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Go-KL Since July 2000 I'd had a miserable time with injury - a fractured fibia on my left leg and a compartment syndrome on the inside of my left shin, which was being very slowly treated by the NHS, but a bungle on the distribution of my notes had delayed matters somewhat.
I'd gone through a pattern of taking 6 weeks off running and then trying again only to be set back with the pain. In April I changed jobs which meant I could no longer cycle so in June I bought myself an Elliptical Trainer which saw and has seen over the years some extensive use.
In September 2001 I'd got tired of not running and decided to try again. The pain in the shin was always there, but was bearable so I decided to run this half marathon - the choice half made because it started on a motor racing circuit!
I soon realized that I was not in the shape of the previous year but could keep up a pace that was reminiscent of my first ever half marathon in 1996. I was determined to break 1:30 and did by a few seconds.
However on being driven home I found myself unable to put any weight on my left leg. This persisted for three days, and I only ran once in three months when the doctors finally detected a stress fracture in the tibia (who knows what it was just after this race) and were convinced that the compartment syndrome was chronic enough for them to operate.
