Definitely get a turbo tyre. Different rubber compound so can run hotter for longer. You’ll likely strip a road tyre in weeks (maybe even days).

Anyone got a smart turbo lurking spare they want rid of? I'm struggling to find one anywhere

Good luck CStar. All I can say is keep trying. I eventually got one last week having struggled (and being frustrated by companies saying they had something in stock and then found out they didn't really).

My take on the turbo tyre thing is use an old tyre first. Sure it’s not perfect, but you’ve got to be riding a lot to actually wear through a normal one. I’ve ridden for a a few hours a week in the past.

Depends on the tyre, a good racy tire is destroyed very quickly

Here's a question - I've looked on Zwift Insider and got no joy - if you're in a 'no drop' meet-up do you get the route credit and badge? ie if I ride with Gobi and he pushes out 6 W/Kg and I'm at 2 we stay together in the game but will I get the badge and XP? Why do I care? I rode the zwiftinsider.com this AM. We had a normal meet-up with drop but my PC decided to drop close Zwift at KM 1 so I had to restart and because we'd passed the start of the route I restarted to follow the route. Caught up and rode on. It was emotional. He said aim for 2.5W/Kg ave beforehand - I knew I couldn't do that - I do 2.5W/Kg on a 10 mile TT so I employed some 'marginal gains' and hoped that would help me. Even then we were climbing at 3W/Kg plus and I averaged 2 W/Kg based on my scales weight. Why didn't we just do a no drop ride I wonder? |

As far as I am aware if you do a no drop you just do the ride together, I did one this morning and we were credited with the same ride

I got dropped off a "no-drop" meet-up ride last Sunday. An hour in to a 2-hour ride and one of the group fell off the back because his turbo stopped talking power to the ‘puter for a short while. I was next back and suddenly the rest of the group disappeared up the road and I was left pedalling alone. I wasn’t whooshed up the road to rejoin (I assume because Kev was behind me?) but when he was whooshed up to me we were both stuck then together, about 4 mins behind the rest. I left at that point, mostly because I had only planned an hour but also because I felt like I was holding him back (he hitting 2.5 w/kg, me on ~1.1). I still haven’t found out if he managed to catch up once I’d left. |
