Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I think zwift measures your w/kg over different time periods (5 secs - 5 mins) and readjusts ftp from that.

It changed mine last week up to 151 due to a hard session I did.

Meglet - not necessarily as it will depend how hard you ride when using zwift.

If your rides are always relatively easy feeling then your ftp probably isn't realistic or you've not done a hard enough session to warrant changing it.

It feels realistic, when I do a workout I find I can achieve the targets, but I'm definitely working about as hard as I'd expect. The actual number is low, but without a power meter it is estimated, but I'm not bothered about the actual figure as it was measured on Zwift and that's all I use it for. I do think my FTP has improved with all my summer riding though, it's a little easier to hit targets than it was in the spring.

Going to try one of the Group workouts tonight. Apparently they are a bit like a Group Ride but you stay in the group regardless of output (unless you literally stop pedalling) and do a structured session together.

It's an hour of 5 min under (IM pace), 5 min over (HIM pace) - very close to what was in my plan so I'll give it a dab. Hopefully it won't be like the Group rides where you sign up for 2.5 - 3 w/kg then end up blown out the back at 4.5w/kg....

May work for me, may not, will report back tomozzer.....

Anyone else tried one? Think they are quite new, not seen them before.

Sounds a bit like the social rides?

I was hoping to find a race about 17:00 - while the light is still okay for a ride at the moment it hits the Chelmsford rush hour.

thems the ones. its a new thing. You dont get dropped at all I dont think unless you actually stop (as TRO mentioned). Im struggling to see the point a little unless you are voice chatting or its a group that you know.

Yep, tried it last night.

You line up on the pier as for a race, normal Group ride etc, but there's no leader and you have your 'workout' type screen displayed - the intervals, the coloured graph along the bottom, target wattage etc just as for a normal workout.

We ended up alone in Watopia (maybe they can't make it non drop with 'normal' riders about, or maybe they are just hidden from view).

As you do the programme it is weird in that you move around the Group but it has nothing to do with what power you are producing. You can surge to the front and put your nose in the wind, or slide to the back when not varying your power at all - so there is no feedback to the visuals on screen from what you are doing. You thus just chase your numbers as per a normal workout.

The non drop is weird, if you stop pedalling (eg wipe yourself with towel, adj power on watter) the Group rides off but as you as you start pedalling you catch the group at searing pace even if you only pedal at 65w.

To be honest normal workout mode is better, as you can chase your numbers but also get the feedback from your Avatar going faster/slower as your power varies. If your position in the Group changed as a result of your efforts - on power, nicely in the middle, drop off of power, slide backwards in the Group etc it may be worth a further look but so far not for me.

Thanks for the comprehensive post TRO. I think I'll avoid for now.
