I got a lovely new mat and meditation cushion for my birthday. The cushion can be used for sitting and under my head for Savasana.

I always sit on a block. I had a one on one lesson today (free work yoga, but I was the only person to turn up due to holidays) and she suggested I use blocks when I wouldn't have thought I needed them (under a leg on a reclined twist) but they did make a difference. It's all about experimenting really.

Block or pillow/cushion can be good for sitting cross-legged if you find it challenging...make sure the hips are higher than the knees. I've got open hips so have learned that not everyone does have them!
It's awkward when I take for granted that most people would be able to sit cross legged comfortably. Live and learn when teaching, after seeing other people with issues and helping them to adapt to what their bodies will let them do.

Under a cheek on a reclined twist also works well.

I can sit in full lotus but it becomes uncomfortable after a while so much better on my cushion if I'm meditating or doing breathing exercises.

It's also useful in pigeon/sleeping swan if the pelvis isn't level and one hip is floating off the floor. Place block/pillow/cushion under the floating hip to provide/create a stable platform for the hips.

Haven't tried a block in pigeon - think it'll help a lot!
