Leg cocking for the first time is milestone to celebrate :-) (but maybe only other dog owners would share your glee)

Today has been an exercise in 'reasons not to own a spaniel' especially a trail-blazer, route-finder explorer of the undergrowth and muddy puddles spaniel with the fluffiest and softest undercoat you can imagine.

It took me two hours to walk the full figure of eight around the nature reserve and the lake, and it has taken me over two hours since I got back to remove the grass seeds, sticky leaves, goose-grass beads and other assorted bio-diversity from his ears, head, neck, tail, and two legs. Both of us are now tired of the grooming but there are still two legs, four paws and a tummy to go.

We're taking a break for an hour or so.

I'll try and remember to take a photo a Ralph when we get back from out walk. Helegant describes it well - except that R is mainly white to start with and is bigger than Jet. I remove seeds etc from around his ears and leave him until 2nd walk - then I let the mud dry before brushing him and sweeping the floors. Then I wash down the tail high tidemark from all the walls, doorframes etc . Rinse and repeat tomorrow

I'm very pleased that Wanda has a very short coat, although on the occasions she has got out onto the estuary (fortunately not very often) and come back caked in mud from the mudflats the cleaning isn't much fun either, although it's usually manageable with a sponge and bucket of warm water. I've once attempted to give her a shower and will probably stick to the bucket and sponge method should the need ever arise again dog :-)
