Bella made it to training venue with OH, he gets there early to walk and trying and settle her. But not tonight she just would not pay him any attention so they had a walk and came home instead. It's getting a bit frustrating, she obeys commands no problem at home but if there's any distractions it all goes wrong

Do you practice the training commands out on walks too, or have you got somewhere near you (say a quiet corner of a field) that you could walk to, do 10 mins practice then continue with your walk so she is doing those things on a more regular basis in a different environment?
Our dog training teacher always explains it using the analogy that when we learn to drive it doesn't matter where you learn to drive, once you can drive you can drive anywhere, but if a dog was to learn to drive in, for example, Birmingham, they would only know how to drive there and if they were to go to Manchester they would have to learn to drive again... ie the dog puts a lot of association on the place that they learn to do something not just what they have learned.....

That's a really useful analogy Baroness. It explains a lot!

Jet followed his nose at the usual speed around the garden, yipping and identifying the trails of every overnight visitor. After five minutes of joyful observation I called him back in for his breakfast. All eaten, and the dog is now relaxed on my lap with his nose in one of my shoes. He seems fine, thank you :-).

Good news Helegant.
And good advice re training, too, from Baroness.

Hmmm. At the obedience class last night it was hot and the ceiling fans were running causing the light to appear to be flickering. All the dogs were out of sorts. Even freshly cooked chicken couldn't get Jet to concentrate, and the rescue-dog-with-issues was even worse than normal.
I second the idea that environment and context matter a lot to dogs.

Somehow, surprisingly, Charlie managed to pass Bronze obedience (!) last night. Echoing Helegant, all of the dogs were off form - perhaps because we were inside the hall whereas we're normally outside. Only 4 out of the 7 passed...
NB it isn't the KC scheme but comparing them it is almost identical in content. There is a KC class nearby but I decided to stick with the trainer who we had for puppy class, I really like her.
We're going to sign up for Silver, but I suspect it will be a lot more challenging than Bronze (which only seemed to reinforce what we learnt at puppy class). Lots of new stuff on the agenda
