Jess isn't slobbery and has less bounce than boxers. She's the perfect combination :-)

We have had a moment this evening.

She came charging in from the garden and straight on the sofa which she knows isn't allowed. I said 'down' and she didn't so I called her to me and made her sit. Fine, however as soon as I released her; straight back on sofa and barked at me.

I know better than to try to force that kind of challenge so went outside and called her which got her off the sofa but of course she had won and knew it so challenged me again outside by biting my ankles.

I have spoken to the trainer who has advised me to be very careful and in a similar situation use a chair for protection but has given me a strategy to use to put me back in control.

This is to be treated as a training exercise; invite her onto the sofa and reward, then ask her to get down and reward and then go for a walk to diffuse any 'feelings'. However to be well prepared before I start as this is clearly a power struggle.

First of many I expect, made more difficult by her size and strength. :)

It's good that you have seen the trainer so quickly after she arrived with you and you can get the help and strategies from the earliest possible stage.... especially as you don't know what rules she had/didn't have in her last home.

She is isn't she? :-)

Bryony will be bigger and stronger than Jess (our Jess not Gimme's Jess) but we have had some similar er 'games'. Perhaps it's just a matter of semantics but I prefer not to see them as power struggles more a battle of wills - Jess just wants to do what SHE wants to do. She doesn't want to be boss of me... just to do what she wants. We have to persuade her our ideas are better and make everyone happier.

After all THIS had to stop

I can perfectly see that as she feels more at home here she would instinctively seek our what suits her and maybe likes the comfort of the sofa, however there are two sofas and she is only interested in the one I sit on. Also she was deliberately aggressive when I told her to get off not just obstinate or perhaps defensive? Its a fine line between fight and flight and we don't know which she has had to apply in her life up to now.

the you are right was in answer to your post about Bryony of course!
I agree Jess is gorgeous, but unfortunately she agrees too.

She is currently reclining like a queen on Raffo's sofa with her head on the big cushions. It's all his fault as was the bed situation. To be fair to him he put it right and has not weakened bed wise since.
