57.5 Degrees of Pain
Though I mostly lurk here to show my wife cute dog pictures, add Belle to the venerable dogs roster. Just past 12 and she is still full of energy (especially when there is sport on the TV or something to chase). Like an aging runner she just needs regular rest days for recovery. Our last Border Collie lasted to 15 in reasonable shape so we hope she's similar.

Fingers crossed for Belle, 57.5DoP. Our senior boy Shadow continues to astound the vets with his condition at the ripe old age of 16. He's on meds for his heart murmur now, but otherwise he's perfect in every way. Which is good, because he's never allowed to die. |

Rory is 8 now (possibly. Possibly older). He had a 1-1 agility lesson recently where he spent the whole time running around chasing pigeons. New instructor asked how old he was and then said ‘oh…wow’ in a ‘wow. So old and yet so badly behaved’ kind of way.

Here's Flossie keeping me company while I was gardening on Sunday. Her job is to look disapprovingly at pigeons and magpies while ignoring any smaller birds. ![]() She had a very unpleasant encounter on our walk this morning. We met a fox-red Lab dog who ran up to her and immediately mounted her, which she did *not* like. I tried to pull him off but it was really difficult as he was a big, strong dog. His owner was calling him, completely ineffectually. Poor Floss ended up on the ground at one point. I was really cross but she seems to have suffered no ill effects thank goodness. The owner said 'I don't know why he does that, he's been done'. Maybe keep him on a long lead if he's got form for doing this to random dogs he meets? |

Yeah I get that a lot, Poppy the Pointer bouncing hysterically all over people and they say "Aww cute puppy! How old?" I say nearly 3... they go 'oh' in totally the same disapproving tone. |

Poor Flossie. For an older dog especially if it was one with back hip/leg issues that could be extremely serious. Some people just have no thought/idea.
