Grast girl Finn was fine travelling in the car, take a washable blanket for an accidents.

They recommend 5 mins per month of the dog for walking once they are fully vaccinated. We walked Finn round the front garden to get him use to the lead and folk and cars going past in the few weeks before we could take him out and about.

Just as UC says, the recommendation of 5 mins per month of age for the first year is to protect their joints as they aren't fully formed until around a year.

I'm hoping Lola will run with me, slowly, but not going to start that until she is over a year old.

Funnily enough there is also a FB group called running with Beagles- although they aren't a particularly active group- in terms of posts, I'm assuming they run lol.

I hope she will be too. I'll stay in the back seat with her.

We will definitely be sticking to the back garden for a bit. Thankfully we have a decent amount of space, although we might need to check all the fences for escape routes.

We'll have schoolchildren and the nearby level crossing to tackle from the front door before she goes any further afield.

we had a four hour drive home with ours and we just sat with her on our lap in the passenger seat. She did wriggle and cry a bit to start with but then fell asleep.
We stopped half way but she had already had an accident on me lol...

I don't think being car sick is breed specific. It's like kids - some are and some aren't.

We had a beagle in Manchester, he was completely bonkers. I love them though - such 'doggy' dogs. If you had to draw a dog, you'd draw a beagle. :-)

I seriously looked into getting a beagle some years ago but was advised that they can dig their way under any fence and are expert escape artists and that my garden at the time was not suitable for one.

We also used to have one at our agility class and as soon as she was off the lead she was off round the fields and paddocks and it was a good couple of minutes before she settled down and did the agility course. However I suspect that was more to do with the amount of training she had (or perhaps didn't have) in other elements of her life.

Having said all that I think they are lovely and would definitely consider having one in the future. Do keep us all updated how you get on.

Been away from the site for a while with a lack of running. Lovely to see there's a few new dogs in the group 😀 looking forward to pictures.

Arlo is unwell so being a stress head, I'm really worried. A couple of nights last week he threw up grass. Was a little off his food but some days ate it and was fine, one day he didn't so gave him chicken and rice.

But a bit growly last night and threw up through the night and then twice more this morning before the dog walker got him. He then had bad diarrhoea while she had him out. And not eating his rice tonight. Even turned down cheese this morning.

Hoping it's just a bug, but keep reading about the mystery illness on the north east coast.

We do think we have worked out that his aggressiveness was down to a bad gut though.

Good to hear about new dogs :-)

Hope Arlo feels better soon Roberto - I’ve heard of the illness going around - possibly a tummy bug of some sort.

We’ve had disturbing news in our area - the waggonway (path/cycle path) nearby that is good for walking dogs in the dark after night (my go to before and after work walk) has had reports of someone leaving poisoned dog biscuits out. It may be a hoax but is enough to scare most of us dog walkers from walking there which is a shame and means I have to find some streets to walk around for our dark walks.

It’s awful to think of someone either doing that or spreading a hoax about to generate fear.

We get that at the field at the top of our estate Pen. With that and all the broken glass, we never use it. But it's a shame because it would be convenient for letting him off for a run.

Fortunately my manager is a dog person so will let me work at home for the next few days to look after him.

Just read an interesting vet opinion on how 5 mins of exercise per month of age for puppies is not based on any scientific evidence but has been something just handed down as word of mouth. His opinion from the scientific evidence was to avoid running up and down stairs and lots of intense chasing/high impact stuff (eg jumping on and off stuff) until fully grown but not to worry too much about how long a walk outside was as there was no evidence of damage or injury from general exercise/walking outside. Also no concern from puppies playing with each other.

He’s a very experienced vet who has 25+ years experience and an interest in injury/surgical rehab and expertise in agility so his opinion is pretty well informed.

Interesting :-)
