We have one, it's a bit like those trailers that some parents put kids in. Its fully enclosed so we didn’t have to worry about our stroppy terrier getting out. It has a tethering point too.

Joining this thread because I suspect we are woefully underprepared for our beagle puppy arriving on Sat. All advice gratefully received.

Grast-girl good luck. Get plenty of sleep this week as you may have a few sleepless nights. Good reading resource on Facebook called Dog Training advice and support, gives good tips on preparing for new puppy and toilet training etc.

Ooh a beagle Lovely dogs, inclined to naughtiness if Bobbie the Beagle (a former running companion when we had our Thursday morning running group) is anything to go by! (Actually he was a rescue, from a home where he didn't get anything like enough exercise/stimulation so not surprising he could be a bit 'off the wall'. I gather he's settled down really well now, and enjoys trail running at the weekends and lying on the front room window seat to keep an eye on things during the week ) |

We got a Beagle puppy, Lola, in June, my biggest advice is sleep. They need around 18-20 hours sleep initially. Most of the time Lola misbehaved I could identify that she was over tired and should be put for a nap. I'd also suggest using a crate for them, not as punishment but to create a safe space for them. I'm in no way an expert but happy to help from our experience. There is also a lady called The Beagle lady, who specialises in training Beagles, I've found her FB group and advice really useful. facebook.com |

Thanks all. Someone else had mentioned the sleep issue. I'm hoping OH is going to take on most of that (it was his idea in the first place). I will look up the facebook groups. We met her yesterday, she seemed surprisingly calm sat on my lap, but perhaps not so keen on OH, although he was standing up, so I wonder if she just felt a bit insecure with being that far off the ground (or needed some sleep). We are hoping she'll want to run with us, mostly OH who will be quick enough, I'll probably just look like she's taking me for a run. The breeder has given us the advice about a crate, so we've got one ordered. The first hurdle will be getting her back in the car without any sickness/accidents. |
