I think Drontal is a good one but I don't think any of the over the counter ones kill lungworm which can be caught from slugs. Milpro does. I think it went up to just over £5 when she went over 5kg in weight.

It's really worth getting the one that does lungworm - a dog in our village contracted it (I think from a slug) and was at the veterinary hospital in Newmarket for quite a while with it. We have always got the one that does lungworm from the vet since then.

Thank you. I will contact the vet and ask about it.

Our vet prescribes Drontal.

Isn’t lungworm covered in the annual vaccinations? (Can’t remember!)

No, lungworm is not in the vaccinations. You need specific wormers:

Ignore my last post - the vet gives Droncit, not Drontal - sorry for the confusion!

Worth reading here as Droncit only protects against tapeworms:

Thanks, SjohnA, that’s the combination we’re given on our health plan. Lungworm covered by Advocate then! I’ve not heard of any shortages here, but not due our next batch until January so we’ll see if it’s switched then.

Poor Arlo :-( Fingers crossed he grows out of his health problems. I remember spending a lot of time (and money!) at the vet with Charlie when he was a puppy, but his skin and ear issues cleared up when he hit around 18 months old.
