Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Our lockdown begins today in even more seriousness than before. I've just watched what I think was the third of three blackbird fledglings take his (or her) first mighty leap into the outside world. Sadly his much bolder and braver big brother (or sister) has already paid the ultimate price for his earlier curiousity and Wanda will now not be allowed in the garden (unless on a very short lead) for about a week. There is now a notice on the back door as a reminder: 'Stay At Home, Protect the Blackbirds, Save Lives' - It's a pity Wanda can't read though!

We don't need no bird control

Hey, Wanda!
Leave those chicks alone!

Excellent Sharkie! We love blackbirds too so the garden is out of bounds for a week by which time they should be able to fly and with any luck they will perhaps fly into next door's garden... we also had a song about the same subject last year - from memory I think it was....

On the first day of Whitsun my Staffie brought to me..
Five Fle - edge - lings
No, make that six
Three blackbirds
Two little sparrows

And a starling in the bay tree

Sadly it wasn't far from the truth either but we are all trying hard to keep the numbers down for this year (well the humans are trying hard anyway.... Wanda is trying to keep the numbers down too, but in a different way to us....) :-(

There would definitely be a Staffie shaped hole in that glass and a pile of grey fluff on the floor if that was our house!
