We had a similar situation here with thunderstorms. Wanda also barks and demands to go in the garden so she can chase the thunder away! She was also allowed into her upstairs 'daytime' bed eventually, although by that time I think the storm had just about passed over. It meant we were all able to go back to sleep for a good couple of undisturbed hours though.

If Floss was bothered by the lightning (we didn't seem to have any thunder) she kept it to herself. Given that the kitchen has a Velux window she probably had a good view of the flashes, too.

Rory doesn’t really like thunder - he looks a bit worried and goes upstairs and lies on the bed.

Both of us slept through it last night though (I know there was some as my cousin down the road has put a video on Facebook).

No thunder here.

Ernie has disgraced himself 3 times on our walk. We went for a walk around the local estate (posh kind not housing kind). Twice he strolled into people's gardens to explore and say hello. Then the little bugger got on the wrong side of a fence, in a field, full of cows. Luckily the cows were further back and he showed no interest. I think he followed a sniff.

It's all my fault because I was just saying how much progress we'd made and how he's calmed down. Not really sure what got into him as he's never done either before.

I always think, how are they supposed to know what boundaries like fences and gates are for? I don’t think dogs have much concept of ownership of space (mine doesn’t, anyway, he’s just run from the window seat to the chair arm to the floor, using me to bridge the annoying gap of the chair seat, then looked annoyed because he got his foot caught on the mug I’m holding).

I have severely pruned the tree in the garden that Rory is obsessed with and spends hours staring at, barking and standing on his hind legs. I did not find Father Christmas, Nessie, a family of feral cats or some children who had climbed up and couldn’t get down in there, so I’m not sure what all the fuss was about.

To be fair both gardens had big open gaps in the boundary. I'm not even sure if there were open gates or just gaps.

You're both right about boundaries... and how ON EARTH do you stop a dog weeing when there's just a tarmacced over space where a garden SHOULD BE. (Pet hate of mine -we need front gardens, not parking spaces!)
