That sounds familiar HP. Also yes, dog's name then 'stop' as the Baroness describes.

No pause between the two words.

I think Jess remembers most of the stuff she learned ... it's just me and Raffo not giving clear enough commands these days. Slapped wrists for us not her!

We use the emergency stop for Jet. I think the shock of the sudden tone of voice is what used to stop him in his tracks. Then of course he was rewarded for doing it right.

We started with dog recall towards us, then transferred to dog running away from us.

I suspect Indi is more than bright enough to realise what's needed quite quickly.

Jet used to be completely reliable, but since we stopped the classes he listens when he wants to. I suspect he responds faster to me because I take him to agility so we have 'some' form of training bond.

I think Flossie got it because of raised hand combined with the very firm 'stop!' We were taught initially to get a 'sit' by raising a hand (palm flat) and so if she saw me doing a 'higher' hand, combined with the step forward, it gave her pause.

Having said all that, over the years my command for stopping if she's ahead of me, is definitely now 'FlossieWAIT!'

LD, I recognise that, and I tend to use 'wait' for stopping ahead of me.

'Relaxed stay' while we leave the room is the one we found most challenging.

Jet is happy to relax at home, and in the car, but or us to leave him out in public... I actually can't think of a reason to use it. Jet always wanted to check where we are so normally got up after a minute or so and came to find us.

Yes that's going to be tough for us too as he never lets me out of sight. But, we are not doing t his just to get the award but to learn new things that make for a happy and contented dog. I must keep repeating this to myself! You may all have to remind me of this in the autumn when I'm moaning. :)

Yes the relaxed isolation was hard for Wanda too - we tried various different ways of doing it at class - but by the time she took the test you could use a crate for that element (which didn't used to be the case) and we managed to get her to tolerate the crate for long enough to get through the test!

After we found a specific (and very expensive) 'Staffie' muzzle still a little restricting as far as panting etc was concerned we have now bought a lurcher one (it looks big but the lady at the charity assures me that once Wanda gets used to having a longer snout it will be fine!). Hopefully this will mean we can enjoy parkrun again and ensure we get plenty of space
Certainly on our first walk in it this afternoon she tolerated it much better than the previous 4 muzzles we have had!
