That does sound interesting! There’s a deaf dog at our training too, it wears a bandana that says ‘I am deaf’. (Well, I have no actual evidence that it’s deaf. It could just be badly behaved and they CBA apologising for it any more...) |

Exciting - Wanda the film star Thank you for the link to the paper poo bag energy generator; I've passed it on to the management of the local Forest Centre and they are excited and trying to find out more about it. (There are seven poo bins around the main trail and one of them often overflows so if they can reduce the cost of the contract to empty them...) They already have a 'green' mandate and generate power using the wind turbine, photovoltaic panels and a biomass generator. |

So the man came to film me and Wanda at class. We did 4 different exercises today - Targetting, Emergency Stop, walking to heel with changes of pace/turns and a stay. I probably need to write a blog to give you the full picture but suffice it to say that thank goodness we weren't actually taking the KC Good Citizen Test today Our instructor kindly said that Wanda was probably just not used to having a camera pointed at her (although I still think that is no excuse for pretending to have never heard the word heel or close before!) His film is entirely about why people are scared of Staffies and them being a misunderstood breed - I will await his film with interest and hope that Wanda has been an ambassador for the breed and their X-bred cousins...... |

Oh bless her, Wanda will have done a grand job (even if she wasn't that great on 'heel' ;-))

Way back here - fetcheveryone.com/forum__51990__1081__woof_bark_and_also_whiiiiiiiiiine - I introduced Buzz, the labrador we have been fostering for the last 14 months. We were looking after him as he had hip dysplasia, but at the time was too young for any treatment. With a combination of hydrotherapy and drugs (a daily Tramadol) he seemed to be managing well, and was enjoying a fairly active live (chasing cats round the garden, jumping on the furniture etc.). However, recent x-rays showed that his hips had deteriorated badly, and instead of a nice 'ball and socket' he had a 'stump and saucer'. So he's just home from the vets having had one of his hips replaced. Before and after: He's on six weeks of crate rest, and needless to say is feeling very sorry for himself. Not helped by having his bum and half his tail shaved. He may then have to have to other side done. But after that the prognosis is pretty good. |

On one level I'm amazed at what can be done nowadays, on the other hand... he looks rather glum.

Have to admit, we wonder whether it might have been better just to let him live out his remaining time supported by medication, rather than putting him through the pain of surgery and the frustration of recovery, and spend the money helping other dogs. Although as foster carers, it wasn't our decision. He's a bit more cheerful now. Out of his crate and snoozing on daughter's lap - but with a lead on to stop him suddenly trying to walk off. |

Wow, he's actually a really lucky Labrador to have someone willing and able to pick up what I imagine was a pretty hefty bill. Even if he was doing ok now, from the look of that 'before' xray surely his quality of life would have been painfully limited before too long? Heal well, Buzz! |
