Helegant
We've worn Jet out.
Not deliberately, but it's a reminder that he's no longer a puppy, and that he's only used to walking for 4 miles at a time each day.
Today was nine miles, and after about six miles he just sat down and said he didn't want to continue. Unfortunately we were three miles away from home at the time.
I think we need to build his distance up gradually.

Did you have to take turns to carry him???
Wanda was less than impressed with a long walk (we think about 10 miles) we did while on holiday. Towards the end she was showing considerable displeasure. However - a tired dog is a good dog!!

Cookie has thrown himself to the floor in the past, then got up and carried on walking.

I thought of you, Dave, as the go-to person re long dog walks. Am I right that you've done quite a few long hikes with both dogs?

Yes Sharkie. We’ve had them up to 20 miles before. As long as it’s not too hot, they have a good feed before and after and stay hydrated Cookie and Phoebe are fine. If we do a long hike we always take an extra bit of food for them. A hard boiled egg works for ours. If we stop for a sandwich they get a feed too.

With regards to Cookie last night, I didn’t realise a little dog could produce so much from his stomach. It looked like a lot more than he’d just been fed. I think he was actually poorly, rather than being sick to sort his stomach out then eating it again. Looks like a boiled egg and rice day today.

Ernie has done up to 14 miles with us. He's pretty shattered by the end but he has never dropped to the floor and refused to move. We have built up over time. We are hoping to walk the WHW next year but undecided whether to have him do it with us. We take food along and we started bringing 'lunch' for him as he gets really hungry.
Hope cookie is feeling a bit better.

Sometimes little things make a big difference; our dog training club had a fancy visitor from the Kennel Club today.
She took me to one side and said "I don't think you realise what a wonderful dog you have"
I said, thanks, he is sweet
"No, really, I mean he is a very special dog... in all my years I have never seen a dog move so beautifully, most show or obedience breeders would kill to have him! On a couple of occasions in class today when you got it right he took my breath away and made me want to cry!" I wasn't expecting that, bless him, cheered me up no end.
