......... ooops submitted too soon........
and don't get me started on "wait"... he will do it if I'm facing him but not otherwise so the exercise for bronze which is 'dog waits for owner to go through gate first' will only be accomplished if I reverse through gate..

Who wants a "normal" dog?
One of the things we taught Tuss as a wee tiddler was to wait for anyone with him to go through a gate, door, stile etc before him. I used to say aloud, "Me first Tuss, then you"

Did you not get Indi to stay whilst you went into a public loo a while back. I remember being very impressed. I have to admit I assumed you had passed bronze ages ago - Indi is so good. I suppose it depends whether the assessment plays to your strengths. At least you know what you have to work on.
When we did KC classes we didn't sit the bronze because Ernie hated stay and the gate exercise. He could pretty much do everything else....in the hall...in the classes. I think he might pass now.

D - Jess was the same with grooming and letting anyone besides me and Raffo touch her. At the time I was ok doing the 'naming of parts' with her: Teeth! Foot! Other foot! etc but any (ridiculous) notion of a 'trap' and she was off! She is still a very suspicious dog - not nervous it's a bit different from that - but she's not exactly relaxed. Mind you, neither am I - or Raffo!
She's finally ok with grooming and occasionally 'almost' likes it, as long as she is in a tired mood!
We never had any problem with gate, or waits and stays and we scraped through bronze.

And in most ways I think Indi is much better behaved and a more likeable character than Jess at the same age!

If he was a human I think people would say he is "highly strung"! I'm sure we will get there in the end. I agree with S on the suspicious .... its verging on nervous but nerves just about controlled! Yes he did stay when I went to the public loos.... I think that was shock at being left, I've not tried it again. There are so many things I need to teach him before we go on holiday; to be tied up being one of them, I'm not risking a "stay" outside a busy public loo somewhere strange.

Ah yes 'highly strung' ... it's Shepherds isn't it?
Jess would probably have made her way into the loos! I've said before I'm always amazed by owners who say their GSD 'will run off!' I don't think so!
We've never tied her up anywhere either D. I'm always afraid she be stolen although I expect she'd have something (loud!) to say about that.

With the Bronze D, am I correct in thinking that you do the examination and grooming - the examiner doesn't touch the dog until silver?? In which case plenty of practice (and rewards) should work. Plus I don't think you will be expected to demonstrate a full groom so if you can demonstrate grooming where he will most tolerate it and not groom the areas he especially hates you might be OK?

Ahem... we were out with Jet today when a friendly Visla named Bella bounced up to him, bowed and (I thought) invited him to play. Jet's reaction was slightly different to usual and I was at least 10 seconds behind him in realising what was going on. Bella was in season and looking for a mate. Mr called out to the owner to say "It's OK, he's been castrated." Bella was promptly put back on the lead and taken away at a brisk pace before anything happened.
I was quite fascinated to see how polite both dogs were being to each other in their pre-mating behaviour.
