I am enjoying reading all your training exploits and am here to say, the dogs *will* get the hang of things even though you might despair at times!
We hardly ever do any formal commands these days but while we were away we went out and realised we'd left Floss' lead at the house. There was about a quarter of a mile of walking along the road before we got to the downs where she would have been off the lead anyway, so she had to walk to heel. I had to remind her a couple of times to begin with that she was not to go in front of my leg but then clearly some distant memory resurfaced and she walked beautifully. As she was eager to get to the off-lead bit I thought that was pretty good!

Wow! That's fab.
My sister's BT is rarely on a lead. She doesn't walk to heel but stops and waits at road crossings and would never stray far from BIL. I don't think my sister realises how unusual that is. They did some training as a pup but no classes or intensive training.

Couldn't imagine walking my two off the lead on a street, as they'd both be at risk of running blindly into traffic if something caught their eye. The Whippet would be too tempted to chase rabbits, cats or small dogs and the Labrador would be too tempted to lick small children!

Well done Flossie & LD.
We had a small success tonight. We've been out all day with Wanda and got back home about dusk - every cat in the neighbourhood seemed to be sitting outside our neighbouring houses and all were clocked by Wanda as we drove down our road. In the past this has meant we open the boot of the car and a brindle bullet shoots out scattering cats like ninepins beyond their fences and gates where she can't reach them. Tonight I said Wait as I opened the boot and she got out quietly with only a fairly small lunge on the lead towards the nearest cat (by fairly small I mean I wasn't pulled over and dragged along the ground) which I am going to take as progress!!

Well done Wanda. Do the cats coordinate their efforts? I'm imagining walkie talkies, lookouts and code words.
