Imagine if you mentioned to a doctor that your 15 month old child wouldn't hold still while you squirted something cold in its ears. I don't think it would result in a referral to a child psychiatrist... I've started giving Rory porridge for supper to see if it will make him calmer. Can't say I'm convinced it's doing anything, but I have discovered that he bloody loves porridge. |

Nurse behaviourist? Whatever next?! He sounds like a perfectly normal young dog to me, hp. I didn't know that giving porridge to dogs was a thing, Maz. That'll be cheaper than dog food I'm looking forward to a week in Cornwall with George (and the husband!). Lots of walks along the coast and fun on the beach with my sister and her little terrier. |

He is still very much a work in progress but I thought the behaviourist comment was unnecessary.

Ernie sounds to me like a well-balanced dog. Still young, still discovering what he can do. Building relationships with his family. No need for behaviour work at this stage from what I read. You're all doing a great job with him.

Oh HP, that's just silly of the vet! When Jess was younger she completely fine at the vets (we are hardly ever there now) until one time we had a new young inexperienced vet who was clearly nervous of GSDs and insisted on muzzling her and other stuff. She was then very frightened. A while later we had to take her for a check up and by chance saw the head vet, owner of the practice. We were a bit worried and had taken along her own muzzle and a handy tub of peanut butter ...but the Boss was brilliant. None of that needed he was just quick and relaxed and of course Jess was fine. |

All of the above. Give Ernie space and time to get used to the idea in stages. He sounds like a lovely young dog.

According to some people on the internet, oats can be calming for dogs (it seems to be particularly a thing for Greyhounds for some reason), so I am giving it a go on the grounds that it's cheap, and unlikely to do any harm, and if I decide to stop I can make the leftover oats into flapjack (for me).

Ooh I was going to post about Wanda's most recent stay (last night) at the kennels and the report we got when we collected her... but I happened to notice in the right hand column that where in Tags it used to have Flossie, Jet, Jess, walks (and so on, but not Wanda if I remember correctly) it now just says #dogs - has Mr Fetch been doing some thread housekeeping I wonder? - and also all the threads that appeared under 'related threads' that were nothing to do with dogs but were *hilarious* have also gone.....
