We were invited to spend the day in London yesterday with some friends so had booked Wanda into the kennels again. This would be her first 'scheduled' overnight stay (although see a previous post here, not her first 'actual' overnight stay, which was the last time we went.)
We arrived at the kennels in the morning and Wanda jumped out of the car wagging her tail, dragged me into the reception area and jumped up at the counter to greet the receptionist, before trying to barge through the door out to the kennels.
However she had to wait while we filled in paperwork during which time she seemed to recall where she was and why. We then had the most hideous scene as they tried to take her through the kennels. She went out of the reception door with the kennelmaid, immediately started pitiful crying and sat down refusing to move. The receptionist then went out there too to try to coax her and the crying continued. They then asked if we would come to walk across to the kennel block with her and when we went through the door we were greeted as if we had been away for months. Wanda then got terribly over excited in the run she was in, but then tried to barge out again when we left and succeeded in getting the wrong side of the door and refusing to move as well as the very pathetic whimpering and crying again.
It was absolutely awful - although she does seem far more settled on this visit, she has shown no signs of stress or being very over tired since she has been home and we gather that she ate her food eventually too. The staff told us that these 'manipulative breeds' often behave like that on arrival.
Doesn't make it any easier though....

- they can behave like "manipulative" small children when they want BBL, dropping daughter as a 3 year old at nursery you'd think she was being taken to the gallows.
Webcam evidence an hour later always showed a perfectly happy and settled child. I hope it's the same with Wanda (())

Oh dear... you need the video from an hour later just to reassure you.
Epic fail at the Agility competition today.
Three times!. In each round, Jet jumped the first two obstacles than went walkabout exploring 'more interesting' things in nearby marquees.
On the last round the judge invited me to get him back and make him finish the last section, which as probably very sensible of her. Jet enjoyed it! I was nearly in tears.
Next lesson is Thursday with another competition on Friday. I'd give up, except that I see potential that is being blocked by something that is probably very simple to fix.

Oh dear, H! How frustrating! I've no idea what the answer is but hope you do find a way to overcome his tendency to get distracted.

You need to take Vrap with you. She reported that Jet is wonderfully well behaved

Oh dear H, that's very sad for you .... and for him as he obviously enjoys it. There probably will be a magic "thing" to make it right. anyway we don't give up do we?
At our new class Indi is busy demonstrating to the trainer that everything I said in advance about his obedience skills was a lie. "Wait", I've no idea what that means so it must mean "go for a wander about"
I'm told I have to work on his impulse control!

I'm sure it's only a blip with Indi and he'll soon be concentrating hard on his studies again!
How frustrating Helegant, but again you know he can do it so hopefully he will become more focussed again soon.
Wanda and I are back at our obedience classes from next week (the class we were halfway through when we took a break to go to Reactive Rehabilitation instead.) Wanda enjoys learning and it tires her out and I think the structure is a good thing so I'll continue for as long as that is the case (or until a space comes up in an agility class instead) but I'll need to make sure I stay motivated too as now that we have done the Good Citizen tests much of the class appears to be bordering on tricks and heelwork to music type of movements rather than the 'useful' stuff that KCGC teaches. However I guess Wanda doesn't know whether it's 'useful' or not so she still tries her best whatever we are doing
