Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Aw well done Wanda :) That is excellent news.

Ernie certainly seems happy with the dog walker and is apparently a hit with the other dogs. The walker's Collie has a soft spot for him apparently. Sadly when he is home alone he is not so happy. The neighbours have said he was very vocal yesterday.

How long is he on his own HP? Can the dog walker come at a time that lessens the alone time (if that makes sense)?

In theory we leave about 8:30 and QP comes home at 4pm. I'm not sure exactly when the dog walker is coming but I said around 12/12:30. She is spending an hour with him. That is 3 days and on the others either myself or Alfie will be here for half the day. I have flexible working arrangements so can have some flexibility about how I do my hours and can work from home a bit. The dog walker does do day care so that may be an option but it would be a faff and expensive. He had 6 weeks of one or other of us being at home so it was always going to be a difficult adjustment. I'll give it a bit of time and see how it goes. I feel bloody awful though. On the plus side he is a delight when we come home.

Brilliant, clever Wanda star :-)
I love that photo, hp. I'm sorry Ernie isn't happy being home alone. I'm not sure what the answer is. Charlie hates being left but as I don't work I don't need to leave him very often. If I'm going to be away longer than a supermarket shop, he goes to Doggy Daycare where he has lots of fun playing with his friends until I can collect him. Is there somewhere similar near you?

When we first got Wanda we had to leave her for a day within the first few weeks of her arrival and although we arranged for the dog walker to come in twice during that day she had clearly been very very stressed while we were out.

We tried to build it up after that, leaving for an hour, then two hours, and so on. Things did improve and although we try never to leave her longer than 4-5 hours now, there have been a very small number of occasions where it has inadvertently ended up being 6 maybe even close to 7 hours. Hopefully Ernie will work out that if you do go out you will come back to him.

However, we sometimes have to leave Wanda at another house where we/she stays quite frequently and she really does not get that if she is on her own there, someone will always come back. She is stressed from the word go, climbing on furniture to look out of the window, which she doesn't do at home even though we make sure the 'routine' is exactly the same as at home: in her bed, kong with the same things in it.... it's a rather difficult work in progress still
