As some of you know, the little dog (George) pictured in my avatar doesn't live with me - he belongs to my Mum but I exercise him, look after him when she's not around and he comes on holiday with us whenever possible!
Mother's ability to exercise him has recently got even worse because she's twisted the same ankle twice in the last few months and it's taking forever to heal.
We therefore decided to find a dog-walker to take him out a couple of times a week when I can't and to help when I'm not around for whatever reason.
A young man in the village declared himself to be available for dog-walking via the village 'noticeboard' on Facebook and having introduced him to George, walked with and chatted to him, he (Duncan) took him for a walk for the first time this morning on his own.
George is no angel and not nearly as well-trained as the stars of this thread so we had to brief him quite thoroughly. I was slightly nervous about the whole thing but reports from the Mother-ship are all very positive - G now has a new best-friend, both G and D had a lovely time, were out for 1.5 hours with no incidents and are looking forward to the next one!
Hopefully, it's going to be a successful relationship! :)

George was either on best or most amusing behaviour then Sarah. :-) Or perhaps Duncan is a bit of a dog whisperer!

PHEW anyway. xx

I suspect it was the former, Sharkie. To be fair, it's rare that I have a problem with him these days, as long as I keep my eyes peeled for cats and don't let him approach another dog when he's on the lead. ;)

Sounds like a success.

Ernie will have his first walk with the dog walker tomorrow. I'm nervous tbh. She came round to meet him last week. She gave me a form to fill in and I talked her through everything she needs to be aware of. However she is very young and hardly asked anything and just seemed a bit glaikit (clueless). She only started the business recently so might just lack confidence and seemed nice enough but....

ION liver cake in oven has risen rather unexpectedly. Is it supposed to rise? It is touching the shelf above. Beginning to think the flour in the jar wasn't plain as per label.

Good luck with the dog walker. Ernie's not likely to be too hard to handle. ;-)

Don't worry about the liver cake. I use plain flour and no raising agent - but it doesn't really matter. It may well sink down once it's out of the oven.

Hi HP - is it an on-lead walk at the moment? I had a few young dogs as clients and all of them were off-lead. If off; have you been for a walk together to check recall?

If you have any doubts, call the walker and ask some more questions.

I know some of my clients were tentative leaving their dogs with a new walker, but I was very thorough in checking any issues and letting them know how I work to prioritise safety. Safety first and if that's all in place, then the fun can start and that helps the dog bond with the walker of course.

I use whatever flour is around so sometimes there is a slight rise in the liver cake, other times not. Wanda doesn't mind either way :-)

Glad to hear about George's new dog walker friend :-) Hope it all goes well for Ernie too hp

We walk Ernie off lead as much as possible but recall is a work in progress. He is mostly great but likes to say hello to every person and dog he sees. The liver cake might just be the key. It sunk again and I now have batches in the freezer. I just had the best training session with a remarkably attentive dog :)

The biggest issue with dog walker is likely to be reluctance to go with her. He might need some time to get to know her and accept that I am not around.

Wanda wasn't keen to go for walks with our dog walker initially. Sometime in the early days the walker just played in the garden with her instead of going for a walk.

Well done on the liver cake success too :-)
