Some watches can be switched between the two. Smart recording doesn't record tight turns very well, e.g. track running. Looks like the Suunto Ambit 3 has 1-second GPS sampling. Some of the newer watches will also use GPS + GLONASS (or even GALILEO), which will give much greater accuracy (I notice this when I'm orienteering in woodland).

My ride, tactically early to deprive opponent of double points, somehow uploaded as a walk 😂 each point in every square counts in this match!

DavidAP Aug 2018 12:15pm, 16 Aug 2018 789 posts	0 DavidAP Oranj, on the Suunto Ambit 3 the sampling is configurable. When out for a really long run I alter the settings to conserve battery life but when out for less than four hours have it on the highest setting possible.
