What happens if you challenge someone to a one on one? Does it begin the next week? Are there any rules to who you can challenge? As i'm 1000, am I a lose-lose match for the big guns, or does it not work like that? If not, if anyone fancies a game, challenge me. I don't bike, so it'd be cool if you didn't either; i'd feel bad beating a cyclist |

You are funny KPM! Is all your mileage in grid? It’s reasonable mileage! You can’t really choose who you are playing! I beat quite a formidable cyclist who was a bicycle courier but it took some serious mileage running and walking to do so! You can challenge anyone, it’s up to them if they want to play you or not! If you beat someone higher up the rankings you get more than your 12 points for winning! I’d be willing to play you next week and I’ll be honest, I’m hoping to run 56 miles! I have to work Monday and Tuesday night (12 hour nights) If I cycle anywhere it’s usually to the shops or to visit an old lady 2km away! I also play ‘fetchpoint’ and I’m more interested in watering my flowers and my ranking over there than winning the game! I’m often away off grid at weekends! |

This week, it has been in grid, but i'm normally allover the place. I always start from home, so i guess the central area will always get a peppering, but i'm usually off in a straight line or a loop mainly out of the grid. Just this has been my first week competing so I thought i'd try do it properly. All joking aside, i probably won't beat many people, but i'm always up for a match, win lose or draw Yes, 56 miles would destroy me, I usually do 50-65km a week, but I guess it all depends how much is in the grid. I've joined Fetchpoint, but not had time to look at it properly yet, but picked up a few points here and there with my strategic whosquareswins runs, but nothing like the monster numbers other people are putting up. I'll send you a challenge then, if i'm going to get my feet wet, i might as well jump straight from the frying pan into the fire |

can you challenge multiple people at the same time? If not, go with the other person as i've already accepted jelly's. But if you can do multiple, sure

KPM, as a one-time addict of WSW, I hesitate to point you towards the finer points. Firstly, I note you've twice casually told us that your home is in the middle of your grid. Fair enough. As you climb the rankings such information will be used against you! Secondly, there is nothing stopping you finesse the position of your grid to maximise your available coverage. For some people, their home is located quite near the edge of their grid. Finally, for now, if you look at the Most Pinned posts of this thread there is a lot of useful information on all manner of topics (some, but not much, now out of date as the game and Fetch's coding has evolved). Most of my contributions are a bit technical (code for boring) but some find them useful. One post points to a list of links to blog posts by WSW players which are a nice way to waste (spend) a few minutes. I must get around to updating that! |

Hi Daddy Shark that's great, thanks for the advice and i'll check out the most pinned at dinnertime. Haha yes I have casually said this, because it is the truth... at this moment in time... but I get what you're saying - i may subtly (and quietly) change it to say where my house is in one corner and then go on long looping runs to snap up a lot of the grid and also to pepper a corner with frequent visits rather than the more common centre.. maybe my map has already been amended... who knows? I get there is a lot of hidden depth to this game! I'm still a bit concerned that i'd be completely helpless against an avid and strategic cyclist (who at a glance look to be overpowered in the points department) but as you see, i'm new and know nothing, so probably wrong about this. I'm loving this game, it's a wonderful idea and turned two rubbish-weather runs so far this week into nice purposeful outings. Last night, I was running through ankle deep mud in road trainers, in the efforts to knock off another square haha, it's great! |

Without giving too much away I live in a slightly different place than seems normal...3 farms, a golf course, a canal, two railways a mill and two local cricket grounds mean I have two, it works but means to win games your run options get a bit limited.....

Details vary Ocelot Spleens, but that doesn't sound particularly unusual to me. FWIW - I also have multiple farms in addition to the West Coast main line, two caravan parks, a couple of private roads, a river with limited bridges, a hospital, a supermarket and a primary school in my square. Like you say, the approach has to be to focus on what you can get to rather than worrying about what you can't. |
