Fetch - took a bit of finding, but you posted the scoring system on 4th June (Page 133 of this thread). Might be worth adding to the sidebar or to the game home page?

An idea about be able to move your home point. The more you move your home point the more points you should be able to score. So one option might be to add the ability to move the home point more often but to penalise excessive home point moving by reducing the number of points that be be scored by the number of home point moves each week? So if you were to move 7 times in a week you lose 7 points from your score at the end of the week. Just an idea.

njosmith: I think the idea of being able to move your home point more but it cost you is a good one. Would need to be a way bigger penalty than a point per move though.

Fetch: sorry about the "hmmmm"!
I think being able to surrender might be a good idea, but you since you lose anyway there would need to be a reason to do it. Giving extra points to your opponent doesn't appeal because they will get get plenty anyway. Maybe better would be that you can surrender occasionally and the benefit is you don't lose as much ranking as your otherwise would have done? But as I said, it's limited how often you can surrender so it becomes a tactical thing.
More generally though, with new scoring system I wonder if there is a problem with the ranking system. The original rules made it like ELO for chess, where it was a zero sum game. Now the system means that the total ranking points is always going up. That's great! More points for everyone!
But it means that if you join the game a few months after the rest of us, you are never going to be able to catch up no matter how much you try. Sorry suckers.

Under the current ranking system maybe new entrants to the game should start at the median score rather than at 1000

I think one move a week is plenty. Let’s you deal with things like holidays and work trips, but doesn’t let you optimise your square for every run.
Can I plug my idea again, about scaling square size so that those who run long don’t have to run strange routes within the confines of their square, or else have many of their miles not count.
