Down to 141 in the rankings, but enough kind souls have taken a bye to put me in multi match. I think I will be out in a week.

multimatch is a different game, mr d. You can hang on through the first couple of rounds by doing a lot of swimming and cross-training in very few squares.

Geordiegirl - I’m still none the wiser. But I got 12 ranking points for winning, which I thought we’d established a few pages back didn’t happen if someone’s opponent left the game midweek.
So either the behaviour is different for leaving fetch entirely vs leaving the game, or Mr Fetch has adjusted the system, or (perhaps most likely given the phantom activity that appeared after all the other points disappeared) some other glitch.
No harm done - I had a calmer Sunday as a result which means I’ve perhaps got a better chance of getting through the first multiplayer round.
Not holding out much hope in the 1v1 though looking at the volume of running flanker can manage. Hi flanker!

Hi macca
Going to be a challenge this week (he says - as if the calendar makes a difference!) as I need to take youngest back to Uni at the weekend and get a proper long run in - which will involve going off-grid. Let's see how it goes - 4th place on the leaderboard up for grabs

Maccathecracker and Snail, the pairing rule is, starting from the top of the rankings, each person is paired with the first person below them that they've not played in their last 10 matches. So, although Macca was expecting me, because he's played more than 10 matches since he and I were paired, I've only played 6 matches because I took a longish break. If he were above me in the rankings (like he'll be again sometime soon, no doubt), my break wouldn't be counted.
ITG, lots to respond to: -Did you get your 200? If not, surely you should go for it again this week with another midweek grid move. You're right that I've no idea where you are! -Well done leveraging sympathy into support! For the record, our head to head is currently 2:2 and you won most recently. I can think of a certain someone once saying that people in the top 10 shouldn't moan about being matched up against someone else in the top 10. - I'm not so good a stalker that I know about other people's breaks. But I'm working on it! Once that's sorted I can tell you all who you'll be paired with, on demand. - Unfortunately, the backdoor into old games got closed by fetch a few weeks ago, so I only have the grids we all have (and we all had that backdoor anyway since me, JCB and Vancouver Jogger wrote guides and spreadsheets to explain to everyone how to use it *if* they wanted). It was that backdoor that allowed me and JCB to give a graphical running update of the last multiplayer final, which, alas we couldn't do this time.
Chunky, I follow anyone I've got any connection with (chat on fetch, WSW opponents, "real" people). Me following/buddying doesn't help me at all in this game. It slightly helps you (hardly!), because I leave all my training completely open (unlike many others).
bobbob, most strange. Yes, I've got zero ranking points on a couple of occasions when people left the game. So, lucky you!
Thanks NDWDave. As so often, I was running scared, especially when up against an ultrarunner. You never know how much they'll mop up with one last run.

Looking more closely, I see that technically that's true - but if I assume the other games go according to the rankings, fourth is the best I can achieve.
(I'll not mention that I'd misrecalled the list and believed macca to be fourth - so simply thought he and I would swap places if I won)

Hey, DS, you are quite right that we shouldn't complain about a tough match if we are at the pointy end ourselves. I hope you didn't think I was insinuating anything underhand. I meant to be teasing but tone does not always come across well online. You are one of a few players with a much deeper technical insight into this game and its various features than us plebs who just take a look at the map before going out and hope for the best.* You once sent me my own half-grid from an old game (so I could see my squares without the current opponent) and your technical expertise is very handy from time to time.
Back to teasing: if you spent as much time running as you did working out the maths behind it all, I reckon you'd take CAZ' spot in no time Having just been trounced again by CAZ, you would not believe that he manages to fit in a lot of stationary spinning classes and other random stuff and STILL beats us all.
*I have been known to plan routes to optimise coverage. **OK, I have been known to stop mid-run to look at the map again and restrategise - usually on a Sunday!
*** I also might have saved up my commute to work - albeit a mere 6k - from this morning for later use

Trying to tease you back ITG. No offence noticed, let alone taken!
